Junior (Stylist)
How long have you been hairdressing?
Nearly 30 years now. boy I feel old!
What inspired you to become a hairdresser?
I did a design on my brother’s hair, just playing around with a beard trimmer and it came out better than I thought it would. After that I practiced on his friends and mine. It then evolved into a career.
What is your favourite service to do in the salon?
I love to cut. ( yeah I said it ) Seeing the transformation of a client and the confidence they have once they have left my chair makes me happy. Maybe that's why they say hairdressers are the happiest when it comes to work as they are left on a high.
What do you think your clients would say about you?
I would like to think they say I am a good listener, very honest and not bad with a pair of scissors and clippers. But more important I would like them to say I created a comfortable and enjoyable experience for them, perhaps the best experience!
What things do you like to do outside of the salon?
I'm a bit of a homebody. I love to relax. I do enjoy swimming and cycling and walking which helps me think.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I love the sea. I swear I was a fish in my past life. I guess anywhere with a great beach and coral. The Caribbean to me is like a second home. I would also love to go to Thailand and Kenya as we have many Kenyan clients and the way they speak of their home makes me want to visit there.
If you could meet one famous person dead or alive who would it be?
Muhammad Ali. As a black boy growing up, his strength, resilience and confidence inspired me and helped me find pride in myself and the black people around me. I would love to shake his hand and thank him!
